The Estate Planning Process The process of developing an estate plan can be daunting. Even the most simple estate plan must address the issues of taxation, choice of executor and/or trustee, ultimate division of assets, selection of a healthcare agent, and other similar problems. More complicated plans involve the creation of a trust, charitable giving, and other creative estate planning tools. Regardless of your situation, our goal is to help define your goals – to guide you through the decision-making process so that the end product is a plan that protects you and your family. We begin with an initial meeting where we discuss, in straightforward terms, your personal situation. At that meeting, we usually can identify the type of plan that best works for you, and provide an estimate of the cost and time required to prepare the plan. After the meeting, we assist you in making final decisions and ironing out the details. Depending on the type of plan, drafts of documents are prepared and delivered to you for review and comment. Once the documents reflect the plan, we then meet to have them signed. Some of the most common estate planning tools are discussed in detail at our website devoted entirely to estate planning (www.vermontestateplan.com) or you can select a specific topic from the list on the left/right. If you have any questions, please contact either Allen or Rick at 802-864-5756, or by accessing their contact information. Questions about probate? Click here for more information: Probate in Vermont
